When it comes to cleaning, living in a small flat can be wonderful, as there’s less square footage to maintain. On the other hand, this also means that your living area can accumulate clutter pretty fast if you’re not consistent with cleaning up. But don’t worry, busy bees – maintaining a tidy home takes no more than a few minutes here and there if you stick to a well-planned routine. Follow this simple cleaning routine for small spaces to keep your place tidy.
Make your bed and put clothes away.
Making your bed takes only a minute and sets you up for a peaceful slumber later that night. And while it may be tempting to toss your pajamas or yesterday’s clothes on the floor, put them away properly in the hamper daily so you don’t end up with piles of laundry cramping your space by the end of the week.
Tidy up the kitchen.
Wash and put away any dishes in the sink, and give the counter tops a quick wipe down.
Once a Week
Clean the loo.
Give the sink, toilet and bathtub a good scrub each week. Smaller homes don’t always have the best ventilation, so this will help prevent mold and mildew from forming.
Tackle the floors.
Mop the floors and hoover the carpet or rugs.
Designate one day of the week as “laundry day” (perhaps when you’re less pressed for time) and get it done.
Once a Month
Clean out the refrigerator.
Do you have any old takeaways or leftovers hiding in the back of your fridge? Perhaps some produce that you didn’t get around to eating in time? Toss it!
Do the dusting.
Give all the surfaces of your home a good dusting at least once a month.
Wipe down the bins.
Even the slightest odor can make a big difference in a small space, so wipe down your garbage bins to avoid any unpleasant smells from building up.
Clean the windows.
Keep your windows shiny with a quick wipe down of the glass, and clean any window treatments you may have – blinds, curtains, etc.
